This research project is strategically embedded within an ongoing initiative focused on capacity building for healthcare staff in remote health posts and birthing centers across the Nuwakot district of Nepal. To design and implement sustainable improvement interventions, it is essential to establish a baseline understanding of the current care delivery system. This project aims to support existing governmental efforts by providing a scientific framework for care service evaluation, ensuring that future resource allocation and quality improvement activities are data-driven and targeted toward enhancing the operational capacity of rural health facilities.
The research conducted by the Akron Children’s Hospital team focuses on assessing organizational readiness through the lens of Nepal’s national quality standards for maternal and neonatal care. By evaluating critical domains including infrastructure, essential equipment, logistics and supply chains, care management, and staff clinical skills, the research identifies specific gaps in service delivery. Ultimately, this comprehensive situational analysis will highlight key opportunities for targeted improvements, ensuring that rural health posts are better equipped to provide high-quality, life-saving care to mothers and newborns in the region.
